Cadillac Recalling 2010MY SRX Crossover to Fix Power Steering Line

General Motors said on Thursday it is issuing a voluntary safety recall of 3,996 Cadillac SRX crossovers from the 2010 model year due to a possible damage to the power steering line. According to the company, if the line is damaged, power steering fluid could leak and make its way onto hot engine parts resulting in a fire. GM said it is aware of one such fire in an unattended SRX related to this condition.

"Based on GM analysis, the issue is believed to exist in only two or three of the recalled vehicles," the company said in a statement.

The affected vehicles were built in December 2009, with 3,460 of those sold in the United States, while 341 were exported to China.

The Detroit automaker said it will notify owners of the recalled SRX models and schedule an appointment for inspection with any necessary repairs to be performed free of charge.

Cadillac Releases Pricing for 556HP CTS-V Wagon

General Motors has revealed pricing for its new Cadillac CTS-V 'super' Wagon, a car that like or not, is destined to be a classic for future collectors. Scheduled to go on sale in limited numbers at Cadillac dealers later this year, the CTS-V Wagon is priced at $62,990, including destination, meaning it carries the same exact MSRP as the sedan model.

"The Cadillac CTS-V Wagon is a limited production offering for connoisseurs who are interested in the unique combination of V-Series performance with wagon style and capability," said Don Butler, vice president, Cadillac marketing.

Beneath the more practical bodywork of the CTS-V Wagons beats the same heart found on CTS-V sedan and Coupe models, a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine pumping out 556 horsepower and 551 lb.-ft of torque.

All those ponies are delivered to the rear wheels through either a standard six-speed manual, or a six-speed automatic transmission, with Cadillac claiming the CTS-V Wagon completes the 0 to 60mph (96 km/h) sprint in 4.0 seconds.

Aside from the new drivetrain, Cadillac's super fast wagon also gets Magnetic Ride Control, Brembo brakes, and 19-inch forged-aluminum wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires.

Standard features include heated, leather-appointed seats, in-dash navigation system with 40-gigabyte hard drive and Xenon HID headlamps. Available options include the $3,400 Recaro heated and ventilated, driver and front-passenger bucket seats, $800 19-inch, polished aluminum wheels, a $600 midnight Sapele Wood trim package and $300 Suede steering wheel and shifter.

Cadillac SRX scores Top Safety Pick from IIHS

2010 Cadillac SRX IIHS testing – Click above for high-res image gallery

When it comes to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's crash rating system, earning a score of "Good" is the best any automaker can hope for. And if a vehicle receives a score of "Good" for front, side, rear and and rollover crash protection and the vehicle has standard electronic stability control that car, truck or SUV becomes an IIHS Top Safety Pick. The 2010 Cadillac SRX became the 15th midsize SUV to be awarded with the desirable designation after the hot-selling crossover passed the rollover crash protection test with flying colors. The SRX had already received a "Good" score for its performance in the other crash tests.

The current government standard for roof safety is that it needs to be able to support 1.5 times the overall vehicle weight. The roof of the SRX proved to be able to hold 4.14 times its weight, nearly tripling the standards required by the feds. The IIHS tests roof strength by pushing a metal plate against one corner of the roof at a constant rate of speed. The maximum force sustained by the roof before the roof collapses by five inches is compared to the vehicle weight to determine the strength-to-weight ratio. Hit the jump to read over the IIHS presser.
